I still love this country

While I don’t blame Kerry for not conceding until the last vote is counted (when things are this close), things look pretty grim, and it really doesn’t look like he is going to win.  I simply can’t understand how people can vote for Bush, but I guess I am outnumbered.  The turnout was high, but it doesn’t look like it was in the 120s like people were predicting…  I am amazed that the Bush camp would claim victory when it is fairly close after the last election…  But they amaze me all the time. :)

This is also an amazing repetition of the failure of Polls…  Yesterday’s exit polls showed Kerry with an edge in several key states, but this morning it’s looking like that edge was nonexistent.  And like I said, I don’t blame Kerry for holding off, I sure hope that he doesn’t go sore-loser style if it doesn’t go his way once Ohio is finished counting.

I am very disappointed, but what can you do?  All we can do is hunker together for the next senatorial election, and in the next four years find a stronger candidate.  That is all.

Voting

I left the apartment a bit after 7am this morning, and stood in line for about 40 minutes or so to vote… When I got to the front it turned out that I got my old folks homes confused and I really needed to vote at the polling station across the street at the OTHER old folks home. Fortunately, the line was a little shorter there… The first line was about 100 people or so, almost all of which were my age or younger… There was only a smattering of people older than me on either line… I really hope the turnout is as good (or better) than predictions… Regardless of who wins, I’d like to see as many people vote as possible…

This weekend

Went to Sean and Kelly’s Halloween party out near Ithaca this weekend… came with, and and Michelle rode with us… There were tons of people there though… It was tons of fun for me, a bit less fun for Corinna, but she still had a good time (she wasn’t too comfortable with the bathroom arrangements)… I participated in cutting down a 75 foot tree, Sean did the cutting, we did the “making sure it didn’t hit the house”. Many people took pictures, but I wasn’t one of them… When I locate some of them, I’ll let you know.

Last night we watched Saw, and it was pretty bad… The acting sucked, the plot was fairly lame and rehashed, and the directing was terrible. There was occasionally a flash of a good idea, but the movie was a waste of money…

I’m going to go out on a limb here, but I feel good about Kerry’s chances tomorrow. I think there will actually be a few points seperating them…

Game 4???

Last night I met up with Adam, Katherine, Wendy, and Todd and went to the Parade of Meat. It was meatalicious…. I didn’t get to Cambridge until 7pm, after working a very-long-day… Afterwards we met up with Rory and watched the game at the People’s Republic… Random thought.

Today I bought Grand Theft Auto Advance for the GBA… I always loved the early, top-down, GTA games, so this should be fun.. And GTA: San Andreas tempts me into buying a PS2.

Quicksilver Down

After dilly-dallying on it for over a year, I polished off the last of Quicksilver today.  I had read the first 300 pages back around the time when it came out, but between moving back to NJ and all kinds of other stuff I got distracted.  A few months ago I made it through another 200 pages before being distracted again…  I started reading it on my first flight down to Texas two weeks ago and read the remaining 400ish pages since then.  Now I am charged to move on to book two in the series, The Confusion.  Baby steps into the Baroque Cycle.

This weekend was lots of fun, and I went to Gib’s place on Saturday to watch “the big game”.  I got way into it, as you probably guessed from my pro-baseball posting from a few weeks ago..  I know this is just home-team excitement, but the initial spark came from when I went to that game back in August (well before the Playoffs were a sure thing).  I guess maybe I will catch up with , , and tomorrow and watch Game 3 after work.

Work…  Before my trip last week a ton of work was dumped on us, all due Nov. 1.  We were told the deadline was being pushed back, and the fact that Garrett, Steve, and I were all being sent out of the office for a week wouldn’t matter.  Now, when we return today, we find out that the deadline is still Nov. 1.  Scrambling ensues.

OpenDB

Thanks to some help from (who hooked me up with database access at CSH) I began setting up OpenDB.  So far I have just imported all of my CDs into the database, and will slowly get my DVDs and Books in there as well..  Ultimately, I intend to use it mostly as a management interface and create some custom PHP pages to replace my existing CD and DVD listings.

If you want to check it out it is publicly accessible here.
