Random Musings

Gonna get ready for the Film Club in a little while… We’re going to see some anime movie, which wasn’t my choice, but sometimes it pays to be a benevolent dictator… My leg is slowly getting stronger, but it still gets pretty sore after a full day of tooling around… For the first time in my life I can honestly say that taking Ibuprofen has had a tangible positive effect on the soreness of my leg..

and I went to a party at Rob’s (a.k.a. Zack, a.out, McFly, etc…) place out in Billerica. It was fun, and we had a good time, but there was this huge douchebag there who I couldn’t stand (and apparently most of my coworkers also hated)… We managed to avoid most of the drama, however, and kept the focus on having a good time. On the way home , , , and I stopped at Kelly’s Roast Beef for some goodness.

Today I got into a conversation with the Crazy Hippie Lady across the hall… I originally was trying to do some recon into her craziness, but it ended up turning into this 30 minute conversation I couldn’t escape.. At least now I know that cell phones will give me brain tumors, and that she’s had someone breaking into her apartment since 1991, but the person doesn’t actually steal stuff, they just move things around her apartment. Fortunately she had that security system installed yesterday.

This honkey’s gone to heaven

Saw the doctor this morning and everything looked good.. He progressed me to “Full Weight Bearing (as tolerated)”, so as soon as I can progress as I can stand it.. I have been trying things out today, such as walking with one crutch and without them altogether.. My leg is completely weak, so it takes alot out of me, but it’s good to feel like I’m finally making some real moves towards simulating you non-cyborg-zombie humans. Soreness but no pain (so far.. :P)

In more exciting news, I finally requested an X-Ray CD from St. E’s Radiology department, so in a few days I’ll have some images to share with y’all.

Things learned from this weekend’s trip

and I decided that after our 10-hour hell-trip getting down to DC on Friday that it’d be better to skip on sightseeing and catching up with friends and drive back on Sunday instead of Monday. We got back in 7 hours, only hitting minimal traffic around NYC. Here’s a list of things I learned this trip:

  • New Jersey Still Rocks! Much like Texas’ “Tolltag” system, NJ has EZ-Pass Express Lanes on the Turnpike that allows you to keep cruising at “55 mph” through the toll. This is something I always knew was technically possible with the system, but it’s the first time I’ve seen anyone use this capability for EZ-Pass.
  • DC Taxis don’t use meters. You rely on the honesty of the driver to not pad how much you owe.
  • DC Liquor Stores apparently close at 10pm on Saturday Night. And I thought Massachusetts was puritanical.
  • The Hotel Helix bar closes at 11pm on Saturday night. What kind of alternate reality stone age is DC in?
  • Entering our room at the Hotel Helix we were greeted by a cold Yoo-Hoo and a pack of Twinkies. This is how all Hotels should greet you.
  • While you may think to yourself “I don’t think adding cooked corn kernels into pancake batter is a good idea”, you are wrong.
  • You can kinda, sorta, almost pretend to slow dance with a broken leg.
  • All hotels need to have free internet service. Learn your lesson, Hilton, and stop charging. Thank god Hotel Helix knows this information.
  • Amenity does not mean complimentary
  • Don’t keep the atlas in the trunk.

Nice

are in DC this weekend for the wedding of one of her college friends… It was a painfully lousy trip down here, but we arrived at the hotel (Hotel Helix) just in time for the complimentary champagne hour, and we headed out to the rehearsal dinner. Today we are going to catch some lunch with some of her friends before the wedding.. Not sure if we are sticking around tomorrow night or not..

Mysterons

I got a slip in our mailbox at home from USPS saying there was a package for me to pick up at the PO, but I have no idea what it is. I’ll grab it tomorrow after Physical Therapy.. When I was laid up for those two-ish months, I turned into an old homebound lady, ordering crap off the internet like as if it was a Swiss Colony or Avon catalog. I had thought that the last of that stuff had finally trickled in, but apparently I am wrong. :)

I had some increased irritation in my joints as barometric pressure rose, but I was never sure if it was just a percieved correlation or if there was actually some connection. Well, any doubt I had about that has fallen by the wayside, as my knee now aches pretty good before it rains. The doctor said the magnitude would reduce as healing progressed, but that it would probably always be there. So this week, and all of its predicted rain, will probably suck a bit for me.

Mr. Popularity

I have determined that now that I’ve lived in Boston for over 4 years I have reached the point where I pretty regularly run into people I know when I’m out and about… The other day I ran into Winfred from the movie club, and yesterday I ran into while chilling in the mall food court waiting for to shop. Between the people I know through the movie club as well as those that I know otherwise, it’s getting pretty weird…

Collapsing New Buildings

Talk about an esoteric bug. If you are listening to an AAC Audiobook (m4b) on an iPod Photo, and pause it, and let it fall asleep (or put it to sleep manually), when you try and wake it up, it will be frozen, and requires a reset. But this only happens if you initially navigated to the file via the “Audiobook” main menu entry or a smart playlist. If you Navigate “Music -> Genres -> Audiobooks -> etc..>” then the iPod doesn’t lock up and everything is hunky dory.
