my armpits burn a bit

Yeah, it’s 5am, but our FileSystem supports files larger than 4k now…. :) I just finished up indirect inodes, so our max filesize is now limited by the size of the disk (128k).

I am working in the User Center here at CSH, so Jon doesn’t have to put up with my typing and changes in light as I switch workspaces on my desktop… All of the workstations here decided that it was time to start their cron jobs, so for awhile it was a cool little surround hard-disk crunching effect.. :)

Hmmm

“Burning Down the House” is on the radio, and like, it sounds strange. My Roommate, Jon Parise and I were trying to figure out what was wrong with it. At first, it sounded like it was running about 10% faster than it should be, but then Jon pointed out that while the vocals were weird, the song was musically right. So we agreed that it is probably a different vocal effect on the radio edit.

The planetarium was fun last night, and afterwards we got to climb the 60 stairs to the observatory atop the Science Center. Unfortunately, the center is VERY close to the (spoiled) heart of Rochester, so there was alot of light pollution, which sucked.

After the planetarium, we came back to the dorms and watched my new Pulp Fiction DVD. It is the canadian version of the DVD, which has a deleted scenes reel that the US version lacks. Via mail-order, they were the same price, so it was a no-brainer.

Recently CSH voted to ask 3 professors to become advisors, and they all accepted. 2 of them, along with one of our existing advisors, are coming up on floor for dinner and a house meeting…. Should be groovy.

Demented Forever

Cecil B. DeMented was wonderful. John Waters is definately getting back to what he is good at; this movie is a funny, tasteless, and everything else that makes classic John Waters wonderful.

Tomorrow the Family Truckster takes on the 5 hour trip up to Rochester. It’s been nice visiting home, and I definately enjoy the relaxation, but it will be nice to get this moving done with and work on doing the same with classes.

I picked up the Naked City album “Heretic: Jeux Des Dames Cruelles” at Other Music when I was in the city yesterday. I tried to listen to it when I was going to bed last night, but it wasn’t very conducive to that. I will give it a listen soon and let you know what I think.

My Roommate, Jon Parise is visiting briefly today. He’s neat.

Postage will be paid by addressee

Got our itinerary for our flight out to SiVi in two weeks, and wouldn’t ya know it… We are flying United…. Yep, that’s right, the airline who’s employees are currently striking…

My roommate, Jon Parise just took off about an hour ago. I didn’t really get to give him a hearty goodbye, because he stopped by during our meeting, but I should be seeing him this weekend.

The garage said that they weren’t sure what was wrong with my car, but that they found a problem with the fan (it was working intermittently). I am taking it to the adirondacks this weekend, so I should know by monday if it is still hosed… Damn car…

This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco….

Yesterday was a hyper-shitty day, some of you know why, others are left in mystery. Luckily, My Roommate, Jon Parise, is visiting to help distract me from all my worldly trouble. He sure is a card. (I always wanted to call someone a ‘card’ :P).

The internet connection was down today; a fiber-optic cut on Genesse Street. Working on XML DTD’s and parsers at work this week, hoping to have it all finished in the next few days, but I keep on revising the DTD, so until that settles down the work on the parser is annoying. :)

It’s hard to look through a telescope when it is covered by a tarp.

Stellafane was somewhat of a bust, all things considered. While it was great to see Dad, Chuck, and Johnny again, the weather was less than savory. I would say that Stellafane is much less fun when you spend most of it under a tarp.

Friday night was fairly clear until 1am, which provided some nice viewing, but Saturday was overcast most of the day, and towards the end of the day it poured, which really sucked. I ended up going to bed at 9pm just to get out of the rain.

Oh, did I fail to mention that my car still overheats?!?!? Most of the way up and all the way back I had to stop every 50 miles or so to let the car cool off for awhile. That’s 3 times that Mr. Joe Legno told me the same problem was fixed and it hasn’t been… He will be hearing from me. :)

Chuck started back for NJ a little while ago, which is why I am into work so early today. The office is VERY hot this morning, I pressed the override button for the thermostat, hopefully it will cool down soon. I suspect that the cooling is just busted, and it will probably take weeks to fix.

My roommate, Jon Parise is allegedly visiting today, for a week or so, which is way-cool. It is always fun to geek-out with Jon, and it will be nice to get to hang out with him without the pressures of classes getting in the way.

Slowly Recovering

Things are slowly starting to balance out in my life. I still will probably have to widthdraw from Calculus, and I am still very depressed re: that, but so it goes. Chuck visited me this weekend, which was very well-timed on his part. Chuck always does a wonderful job of helping me forget all my worldly troubles and simply making me laugh. Chuck has been my best friend since High School, and I treasure that.

Chuck rides trials, which is a cousin of mountain biking where you hop and ride over all kinds of obstacles. Anyway, Chuck was interested in making a short video of his riding while he was in Rochester. He brought a MiniDV camera, which have restored my faith in videocameras. We probably got down like 45 minutes of footage, which will probably distill into 15-20 minutes once all the bloopers are edited out. He said he was going to continue shooting when he got home too.

Friday night we went to go see “Scary Movie”, which was entertaining. Many of you know that I am a ‘movie guy’, and that I watch alot of horror movies too… This film wasn’t exactly a parody of horror movies in general, instead focusing on “Scream”, “I Know What You Did…”, etc (which were parodies in themselves, to a degree). I guess I enjoyed “Scary Movie”, but a parody of a parody can only go so far.

I also replaced the two blown speakers with a pair of Definitive Technologies satellites, which sound extrodinary. They were much larger (and heavier) than the JBLs that they replaced, but they will also handle the power the Amplifer is tossing out more better. I look forward to settling down a bit so I can really go crazy with my Home Theater setup… :P

Jon (my roommate during the school year) is going to be in Rochester for a one-night limited engagement, this evening. He is up for the Computer Science House orientation party, which I will also be attending tonight. It will be good to see him, but unfortunately he has to go back to NJ tomorrow. He will be coming back later this summer, however, which is cool.

So yeah, while I haven’t yet returned to level, the angle of my life is no longer threatening to dump me off the side. Let’s hope things continue that way.
