Just a Wee Bit More of My Life Wasted….

That goddamned Astro Lab is going to kill me someday. First, our professor wanted to do a Parallax lab, so we walked across campus so we could see the horizon of the city, except when we got over there, she informed us that she hadn’t thought to consider visibility, and since it is very foggy out, that lab was a scrub. So we walked all the way back to the lab.

Then, she decides that the lab she is going to have us do is the longest lab of the quarter, even though we have already lost 30 minutes (out of 110) dicking off on our field trip. So we start working on it, and we ask the TA Katie (who is way-cool) a question, which she answered improperly. We went on, collecting data for a good 20 minutes until our prof told us we were wrong. Katie went and helped us catch up because she felt bad, and we only lost about 10 minutes there, not so bad.

So, we continue to collect data from this stupid simulation software. Now, even though this software is a simulation, using data tables internally, if you are taking 5 integrations of 100 seconds each, it actually takes 500 seconds. Now I don’t mind real experiments taking time, but a freakin’ simulation? sigh…

So we collect all this data, and the professor questions one of our results, and upon verification, we were correct. She proceeded to question our results (1 out of 7 was incorrect, and that was gathered by another team). I was really pissed, and I let her know it. She asked us to recheck a result (for the 3rd time now), and I just told her no.

We had to do up a few graphs and stuff to finish off the lab, and we ended up walking out of the lab about 5 minutes late (or 9:55). In reality, the lab wouldn’t have taken more than an hour if she was a wee bit more prepared.

Sweet and Sour Please

Yeah, so I got chicken stir-fry for dinner tonight. It was OK, and it was nice to be exposed to mass-quantities of garlic (something that hasn’t happened since the summer). Hopefully I will sweat garlic again, that was always fun. :P

I have alot of stuff to do for Operating Systems 2, and I have some homework to finish for that lame-ass astronomy class. I have lab for aforementioned lame-ass class this evening, which will suck as well. :)

My schedule is going to blow alot next quarter, I have an 8am class. :(

Burning Down the House

Leaving for class in a few minutes, but I figured it was as good a time as any to slam up a journal entry. :)

I got my Prob & Stat exam back today…. 85/100!!!! I am pretty psyched..

Today is a “It’s sucky being Editor-in-Chief of BeNews day”. We had some problems internally, and it has just been a struggle to attempt to “make things better”. Sigh…

Off to DataComm!

Finally

I finally have a beat to give an update… So, James is arriving today… He is visiting for the Moby concert, and his visit comes at a time where I could use a bit of relaxation.

Jerry has taken over leadership on the project I was working on for work. While on one hand I feel like I have failed, I now feel like my life has suddenly gotten happier… I didn’t hate work, I simply didn’t have enough time between sleep and class.

do not disturb

It never fails: During the first few weeks of school, I come down with an annoying cold. I have always presumed that it has something to do with all these people from around the country bringing their own custom-bugs to Rochester. I have no idea if that’s the truth, but it makes me feel better. :)

I have a Prob n’ Stat exam tomorrow, and I am studying for that right now (well, not right now, but I promise I will resume after this break). I also have my big phone interview on Wednesday, and I have to admit, I am really nervous…

I think they just eyeballed this concrete thing here

That is just an example of some of the amazing construction-worker banter that occured just outside my window early this morning.

I went down to the post office to snag my iButton stuff, but there were apparently two shipments, and this shipment only included the Java-Powered Crypto iButton. Unfortunately, this is useless to me until the other shipment comes in. :)

Going Postal

My iButton SDK is sitting in the RIT post office, but the bastards closed before I got out of class, so I have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up.

I guess i will take advantage of this time to get my homework done for the rest of the week. Toys like this tend to suck my attention away for awhile. :)

Simon says, go….

“We have a note on our website stating that we do not ship to third party addresses. You would need to call bank, and add it on as an alternate address to your credit card. Or we can ship it to your billing address.”

OK. First of all, you didn’t explain ‘third party’ to the layman. I am not shipping it to a third party, I am shipping it to me.

Yeah, so my new harddisk has to go to New Jersey before it reaches Rochester. I hate idiots.

update: I should have made it clear that my bank card does not allow me to add alternate shipping addresses, which is the whole problem. I ended up changing the billing address on the card, which I am just going to have to change again in a week when I move.. grumble.
