Stupid People

Ok, the crew over at Slashdot decided to run a story stating that Freshmeat updated their site design. I mean, come on…. Either you are a Freshmeat user, and you will find out simply by visiting the page, or you aren’t and don’t care.

In less irritating news, I stopped back by the Print & Postal Hub, and the helpful guy from yesterday (not the sped) was there, and told me that he would order the translucent paper for the marquee and it would be in on Friday. So the house should have the new marquee installed by Friday!

Not quite a waste of time, but still….

Earlier today I had to go fax a letter to my Insurance Company to tell them to cancel my policy. I decided to take a walk over to the new Print & Postal Hub in the Crossroads building. I hadn’t had a chance to really explore the new building, and I only had a few minutes between classes to send the fax. The guy there was very nice and helpful, and while I waited for the fax to go through, we started talking about random stuff..

CSH purchased an arcade machine towards the end of the summer. It was in pretty beat-up condition, but it was only $100… So James Kieliszek has been working on refurbishing it (it has been a very tedious process). He recently completed a refinishing of the entire control surface (lots of sanding and painting), and it looks beautiful. He did up a new design for a replacement marquee (the top glass on the arcade machine), and so it occured to me that this print shop might be able to help. I asked the guy, and he is able to print 40″ wide pages and as long as you need… He can also print on to this rad translucent paper in that size… So I figured we could print the marquee on that paper and attach it to (plexi)glass.

I got back after class and talked to James, and we decided to walk over there, print the stuff out, and grab some chow at the new eatery. We walked over there, but unfortunately, the guy I had talked to earlier had left and some student was working. He didn’t know how to work the printer, so it was kind of a wasted trip… But the food at the Crossroads is pretty good, and the atmosphere in the eating area is really cool. So it wasn’t a total waste, and James and I are going to try again tomorrow afternoon, so….

Yawn

I went to lunch a little while ago with My Roommate, Jon Parise and on the way, I noticed that the door to “RITchie’s” (formerly “The Claw”) was ajar. I decided to pull the door open and peek in. There were some arcade machines, some brand new red-felt pool tables. That’s all I could see before the two big arcade delivery looking guys stared me down. :)

Damned Steam Pipe

We had a fire alarm about an hour ago, it turns out it was semi-legit this time around. A steam pipe burst in the tunnels, which caused someone to pull the alarms in two buildings. Supposedly we won’t have hot water until some time tomorrow, but I haven’t tried it yet.

I am talking to Chris on the phone now.. She is flexing the ability of her new-found TACness.

Unlike water, bits don’t weigh anything….

Today I met with my advisor for my CS Department “Exit Interview”. It was kinda bizarre; he mostly asked me questions about what I thought was good in the program, what I thought wasn’t. I got a neat little pocket knife on the way out that says “RIT Department of Computer Science” printed on it. Afterwards, I got my calc exam back today… I didn’t do wonderfully, but I didn’t completely tank it either. I still need to work really hard in order to pass the course, however.

I was feeling kinda burned out today, so I sat down to watch The Filth and the Fury after dinner. It is a documentary on the Sex Pistols, and I was fairly certain that My Roommate, Jon Parise wouldn’t want to watch it (mostly because he said so). So while he was teaching his lab, I popped it in. I am a sucker for documentaries, and ones on music, it was pretty good. It gave a good idea of the genesis of the band, and the punk movement in general. There was a second documentary on the disc about the Punk scene in general, which was interesting as well.

Going Postal

My iButton SDK is sitting in the RIT post office, but the bastards closed before I got out of class, so I have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up.

I guess i will take advantage of this time to get my homework done for the rest of the week. Toys like this tend to suck my attention away for awhile. :)

Goat Blood: It’s What’s for Dinner

I don’t know what that subject means, but it made me laugh for damn-near 10 minutes a short while ago.

I got a note from my department telling me that my advisor was now Jim Vallino. No shit. He has been my advisor for at least 2 years now.

I’m sure glad they reminded me, because I am obviously an incompetant idiot….. :)
