We are the police and now we're gonna a riot

I am finally feeling better after having SARS since the concert Friday night… I was in rough shape on Saturday, just blobbing around the house, coughing and wheezing… Chuck stopped by after dinner for a little while, and we just kinda chatted and watched the telly. Sunday I woke up around 11am to Corinna calling to arrange the pickup. She arrived in Dover Rico around 1:45ish, which was right smack dab in the middle of the Dover Flea Market that I had forgotten all about until I arrived in Dover… :) I met her at the train, and she handed me a gift bag. Inside the gift bag wa a Giorgio Armani leather jacket. Does that not rule?

She wanted to do a round of the market, so we did so, and she bought a strange combination of sandwich bags and a bracelet… This combination amused me for some unknown reason.. After that we grabbed a slice at Enzo’s, which is my favorite slice in the whole wide world. Corinna, however, said it was “just pizza”. I almost left her stranded in Ledgewood for that comment. :) We went back to the house and I introduced her to the rest of the Fam ( Dad and Cassie), and my Mom proceeded to show her all my baby pictures. I called bullshit on that play and retaliated by showing Corinna the basement (the DMZ). I think I won.

The lot of us (Mom, Dad, Chuck, Larissa, Corinna and Me) went to Outback for dinner, which was good (besides the fact the hosed Corinna’s meal). We returned to Tara and Johnny and his girlfriend (who’s name I already forget) came over and we talked and talked and talked and talked….

Monday morning C-lo and I hung out with the Fam for a bit longer before hitting the road at noonish… We stopped by Travellers for lunch on the way out and then hit the pavement… The trip really sucked due to weather and we didn’t get back into Boston until 7pm. We originally left at noon so Cee Cee would have time to work on her apartment, but our late arrival really nixed that, so we ended up renting Catch Me If You Can, which was very entertaining.

I haven’t done much interesting the past few days due to my illness… We played poker Tuesday, and for the first (and second) time I won at No Limit Hold ’em! Matt won the third game, but I am now pretty much even at no limit (and way ahead in limit)… This is a good thing. I guess we are playing again tonight, although I don’t know if Matt is going to make the trip all the way out here for it again.

Well, due to distraction and whatnot I have been writing this journal entry for about an hour now, and I think it is time to finish it off and jump in the shower.

Oh my god that was a fantastic show!!

But boy did the travel suck… I picked up Corinna at her work around 11:15a and we got on 90 and started cruising towards NYC. I decided to drop the car off in Hoboken so it would be a bit easier for me when leaving…. So we hit the Henry Hudson pretty much on time about 3.5ish hours later (which isn’t bad given we stopped for lunch) and I followed the signs to the Lincoln Tunnel… Unfortunately for me, those signs disappeared after awhile and I got a little mixed up…. Double unfortunately for me, that left me away from the Tunnel right around the start of rush hour (if I didn’t get mixed up I would have snuck into the tunnel just before rush hour). We got into Hoboken around 6:10, and we got on the PATH… Corinna went to visit her friends on the lower east side and I continued on to 14th St. I met up with Carol and then James, running only 5 or so minutes late (I was ‘sposed to meet them at 6:30p)… So we got on the will call line and stood around catching up for like an hour or so in the rain… I also started chatting with the bouncer at the door who was a pretty freaking cool guy. When he opened the doors, I walked in first, got swiped for metal, and waited in the front for the other two members of my party… James came thru, then Carol, and when she did she had 3 VIP passes that the bouncer gave us cuz we were so damn cool….

There is something to be said about watching a show from the pit, but there is also something to be said about watching it from the VIP balcony with members of the bands and other people like Merzbow floating around. It was freaking awesome… I got an amazing view of all the bands and I didn’t have to worry about fighting my way back to where I wanted to be if I went to the bathroom… Even the VIP area got a little crowded, but nothing compared to other parts of the club. I stood up on my chair and got an awesome, unobstructed view of everything. And there was a waitress, so I didn’t have to get up for drinks. :)

Trevor Dunn’s Trio Convulsant started things off with a 30 or so minute set… I love Trevor Dunn (Bassist for Mr. Bungle and Fantomas), and it was great to see him on Upright bass with a drummer and a guitarist… There stuff was abstract at times, but it was definately enjoyable (and as Carol said, there is something very sexy about an upright bass). After that was Isis, a Boston band, who was good, although not entirely my thing… Kinda plodding with growly vocals, at first I was turned off, but by the end of their set I was digging them a bit. The first highlight of the evening was a surprise appearance by Melt Banana, a Japanese punk band with female vocals… It was awesome…

I sat down at my table for most of the Melvins set… None of the 3 of us really got the Melvins, so it made me feel a bit better that I didn’t get anything out of them… But when Tomahawk hit the stage the crowd went nuts… It was amazing watching the floor and the pits that formed from the balcony… Tomahawk played a fantastic set, way outdoing their performance on Tuesday night… Mike had some equipment troubles, but was still able to make do… The band played a Sinatra cover “Angel Eyes” (which was written and performed by some other guy, but I always remember the Sinatra version), as well as an encore, which leads me to believe that they weren’t that into the Boston crowd or something… Anyway, it was a stellar freaking time.

Stolen from proxy jeffm…. Here is IMDB’s list of the top 100 movies. The ones in bold are ones that I have seen, and the ones that are underlined are in the house. I’ve seen 64/100, which means I still have quite a ways to go (although I am apparently doing better than several of my friends… :P) This will be a good way to load up my Netflix queue…

What can you do?

I sent in an update yesterday from my hiptop but apparently I screwed it up…. Oh well, it was nothing terribly interesting.

The color problems here at LiveJournal seem to have been fixed. I have also heard some of you complain about formatting issues. Apparrently CSH has sporadic webserver issues that hose up my journal. I suggest reading my journal over at sean-graham.com or directly from LiveJournal.

The Tomahawk show last night was stellar, and completely charged me up for Friday’s show in NYC. The only disadvantage is that I will have to sit through another Melvins set. God damn the Melvins suck…. They are like the Rolling Stones without Talent, Songs, or Plastic Surgery: Riding on songs from ages ago. But Tomahawk rocked the house. A trip-hop outfit from NJ, Dälek (which wins points with me for the umlaut and the reference to the good doctor) was the opening band. I saw these guys open for another band before, and wasn’t too interested in them (although their DJ rocks the house). Dunno what was different this time but I really enjoyed their set.

Tomahawk was in top form, played a blistering set that lit the crowd on fire. They played for about an hour, a bit longer… No encore, no cover songs, but every song was right on….

After the show I came home to find Adam, Rory, and Matt in Limit Hold ’em battle. I bought in for \$7 bucks and left the table about an hour later with \$13…. The poker gods continue to smile upon me. Afterwards Matt introduced Rory and I to his import copy of Soul Calibur 2 for the gamecube. I can’t wait to own this game….. It is the first fighter I have been into since Tekken 3. And so we played until 6am. I know I am a dork…. :P

LJ committed some changes last night that apparently hosed up my journal colors. According to their support forums they are working on fixing the problem.

I love bars

Met up with for a few drinks at Cornwell’s in Harvard Square a little while ago. He is in town to celebrate his brother’s graduation and commission into the Marines. It is so nice now going to bars in Boston and not having to worry about smelling like smoke.

I don’t know what the hell that subject means, but it’s my subject, so FO. I opened a big package of peanut M&M’s earlier today and the bag ripped and the went all over the place. The weird thing is that 9 or so of them landed in the gap between the side of the couch and the cushion, and every single one that landed in this space was yellow. Coincidence? I think not.

I am now 6 episodes away from a complete Good Eats archive. I need the following episodes:

  • A Bowl of Onion
  • Crustacean Nation II: Claws
  • Pantry Raid IV: Comb Alone
  • Pressure
  • Tofuworld
  • True Brew II

Lucky for me the episode “Crustacean Nation II: Claws” is part of this weekend’s Good Eats marathon! That will leave me with 5 episodes to go. Does anyone have these episodes in Divx/similar format and would be willing to do a little trading?

Midnight Zombie Maniacs

grahams - - 1 min read

Last night was the premiere of “Midnight Zombie Maniacs”, the zombie flick that Corinna and I were zombified in. It was awesome, and I can’t wait to get my copy from Nick (the director). He is giving me a copy on MiniDV, so I will be able to make a DVD from it.

Today I helped C-note a bit in her apartment and now I am just chilling at home. Oh yeah, a few people mailed me and asked me what the Jeopardy thing was all about. A few months ago I noticed on the Jeopardy website that they were going to be holding regional auditions for the show in Providence, so I applied to audition. I got the call the other day that I was chosen to audition and given all the details. Needless to say I am psyched, and I appreciate all the kind words y’all left for me… I will be sure to keep you posted, although I have to pass auditions before anything interesting happens. :)

Tomorrow is the SNFC, which I am now co-running… Hopefully everything will go smoothly for my premiere gig. :)
