LinuxWorld was lame. It was this really uncomfortable non-consentual sex act between geeks and suits. Each group seemed to have serious resentment of the other. On top of that, the exhibitors were simply boring. I did have a very nice and interesting conversation with the guys manning the ReactOS booth, definitely piqued my interest, but other than that, it was pretty much a waste of time. Actually, beyond that, it was plain boring.
I did run into
That about covers what I’ve heard about LinuxWorld, that it’s more of a business conference than a technical one.
If by chance you actually want to attend a technical Linux conference, check out OLS.
While I’m somewhat disturbed by your (accurate) geek-suit-sex analogy, you’re right, it sucked. It’s gone down hill every year. I’ll still go next year if work gives me the day off paid though :-)
I was talking to some suit about Linux+ certification and this guy comes up and just grabs my namebadge. I didn’t know what to make of it until I turned and it was you. Figured it might be an over-zealous suit trying to swipe my badge through their reader.
In previous years every person you passed wanted to swipe your card. This year they didn’t even seem to care. I think the ultimate sign that LinuxWorld wasn’t something to talk about was the fact that Microsoft wasn’t even there.
