New ride

Everything was approved on my car, so I am just waiting for them to finish registering, inspecting, cleaning, and installing the lojack in the car… I wanted lojack cuz Comm Ave isn’t exactly Hopatcong, and it will also give me a good discount on my theft insurance… So I guess I will pick it up this afternoon.

New-ish Car

While it is true that I was shopping for a Mini, the sudden demise of Maude changed the game a bit. I bought a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with 10k miles on it… It is a very nice car, and is obviously less expensive than the Mini.

I will keep this car for a few years and then get the Mini. It is a good car, and will be a fantastic replacement for Maude.

My Drug test/Physical results finally came back and I am starting Monday morning! I am going to buy a car tonight (hopefully)!

I am passing the Brighton Evangelical Congregational Church and notice this on their sign out front:

“Those who can dance are considered insane by those who can’t hear the music.” – George Carlin

A George Carlin quote in front of a church… How’s about that!

R.I.P. Maude (1996-2004)

Maude’s water pump died and sheared the timing belt, which ended up being a 615-750 dollar repair on a car worth 1700-1800 bucks. Knowing that the car would need additional work in the near future, it simply wasn’t worth it. I borrowed ’s new ride and went down to settle up with the garage, sign over the pink slip, and get the plates and other stuff back.

So after I hear back this week about the drug test and physical, and am a bit more sure about my job, I will go try to get my mini cooper.

Whoever owned the 802.11b Access Point we were using turned on WEP, so we are once again without any real internet access. I always have my Hiptop, though, so I’m not completely cut off… :)

Tonight at midnight we are heading out to the Coolidge to see “Wet Hot American Summer” for a special Sunday Night Film Club outing (tomorrow is the Oscars, so we won’t be having a usual meeting). I love this movie, so the opportunity to see it on the big screen is too good to pass up.

I still haven’t heard how much it will cost to fix Maude. The garage is allegedly looking at the car this morning, so hopefully I will be able to make a decision regarding my automobile situation in the next 24 hours. I went to the Mini dealer on Tuesday and got all the details regarding a new one of those. They have (or, at least they had, it might be gone by now) a Mini that was pretty close to what I would order given the time, the only real thing I didn’t like about it was the black roof and the leather seats, but if I can’t wait two months I’ll take what I can get.

But, ideally, I hope to get Maude running again and be able to wait a few months before buying the Mini. I’d like to put money down towards it, and I’d also like to order exactly the car I want. But I don’t have *any* money right now, so I’d have to hope my parents could help me. But even if they were in the position to help me, I think that in my mind there is some cost threshold that if the repair violates I’d probably try and get the new car anyway.

My drug test is at 12:30p, not 11:30a. Looks like I’m in for a super-fun wait in the parking lot!

Hahahahahahhahahaha

Wanna hear something awesome?!?!?!?!? Connecticut fucked me again! My car broke down just past Hartford on the way to Boston today. I called AAA, and about an hour later a State Trooper stopped by, I told him I was waiting for AAA, he called the AAA tow affiliate for the area and they had never been called. The cop fixed this post haste and had a tow truck there in like 15 minutes.

So my car is sitting in Tolland (sound like a NJ town.. :P) at Tolland Citgo, which ever-so-luckily happens to be a U-Haul place. So I left Maude with them to get assessed tomorrow and I rented a one-way U-Haul (with the mega-help from Mom and Dad!) and continued on to Boston. I arrived at around 6:30p or so, and called to help me bring the stuff up to the apartment. I parked the U-Haul on the street, but I had to park it in a residential spot, since there were no spots big enough anywhere else. Hopefully I don’t get a parking ticket, but whatever. I have the U-Haul until 4:30ish, so I decided I am actually going to take it to my physical and drug test tomorrow. I am then going to visit the Mini dealer to see if they will lease me one with no down payment and maxed credit cards. It’s possible that Maude just needs a fuel filter/fuel line/fuel pump, since the engine just cut-out without much event (it wasn’t overheating, it wasn’t low on oil, it kept cranking after it died), but who knows.

I am mostly settled here, Corinna helped by having some Virgil’s Root Beer ready for my arrival. I didn’t really bring much stuff, so it wasn’t hard to settle. :P I went for a walk tonight to deposit something in the bank, and on the way back I almost got splatted by a Benz. I flipped the guy off and looked really angry, as I do so well, but something different from the other 300,000 times I have almost been trucked in Boston happened tonight. The guy rolled down his window, and prepared to get into a screaming match, my posture prepared for war. But the guy just apologized. It was really nice, actually… It made me feel alot better after this really shitty day.

Almost Ready

I have a bunch of stuff in the car already (thanks to my parents assistance last night), and I have the last load of stuff ready to go. I will hopefully be on the highway by noon and in Boston by 5pm. More updates later.
