Brainwaves 2008

I had buckets of fun at the first Brainwaves festival in 2006, and Brainwashed is turning it up to 11 for the second festival on November 21-23..  Big name acts you may have heard of like Meat Beat Manifesto, Matmos, and Stars of the Lid, but the real cream of the crop may be the bands you may not have heard of yet (unless you read Brainwashed religiously).   Brainwaves is completely different from any festival I’ve ever attended, the Regent Theatre is a pretty intimate venue and the artists are often sprinkled throughout the venue (not squirreled away in some green room or hotel). 

The schedule was just posted, and at 79 bucks, the three-day pass is a bargain..   You can also buy tickets for the individual days, so if you really want to help one of the greatest independent music sites online (and a native Boston business), buy your tickets now!

  • 09:00 Had 3 serpentine belts replaced on hawkeye and realized I was 30k overdue to replace the timing belt. Having that done today + water pump. #
  • 23:11 Went to get Fallout 3 today, Best Buy asked for my ID so I told them no and went to Gamestop instead. I don’t get carded for film or liquor #
  • 23:17 Of course, I got home and the sinlaws had arrived a few hours early so no Fallout 3 for me anyway! #

SCUL == LARPing

Ok, SCUL "pilots", it’s time to face facts:  You are LARPing.  

Sure, your kink is different from the traditional LARPer, but this does not change the fundamentals…   I was recently in aconversation with a few SCUL members, and somehow the topic of LARPing came up and both of them started laughing and poking fun at LARPers.  But this struck me as really hypocritical, because I’ve always thought of SCUL as LARPing.  

Be Loud, Be Proud, Be LARPers…   I promise I will continue to make fun of you just as much as I do other LARPers.

…is me for being able to go with Rory to see the final game of the 2008 ALDS.

…are the Red Sox for managing to still win that game after blowing a two-run lead.

It was an awesome game, though, and Rory and I stayed around Fenway for a long time after the game taking part in the post-clinch celebrations.. We were also at the game where the Sox punched their ticket to the post-season, and we didn’t stay around long enough for the celebrations, so we weren’t about to make that mistake again.

And that failed suicide squeeze attempt, that was one of the best baseball moments of the year…
