“Tomorrow you’re homeless, tonight it’s a blast” -- I sure do love the Dead Kennedys…
Found an asinine bug in my code today… If the user hit cancel I didn’t fix state so the “send” code would end up processing the cancelled attachment later on and fuck up things pretty annoyingly after that point….
Four hours of sleep and a root canal later, I am still really tired…. There was some concern at the Endodontist that they would have to axe the tooth, but he decided that it was worth saving… Which is a good thing. =)
I got my SliMP3 player before I left this morning and was able to play with it for a minute or two before getting drilled… I wish I had heard about this thing earlier, it seems to be one of the coolest MP3 toys I have seen to date… The display is beautiful and the sound is great! I will give a full opinion tonight, but I can already say it is worth checking out….
Back in Boston now, rolled into town about an hour ago and took a cab back to the apartment… I slept a bit on the bus, but nothing too deep… The dentist is going to suck (in 5.5 hours…)
Waiting a little while longer for my laundry to finish…. I reached “feature complete” stage on my project (as far as I am concerned…. Considering that my spec was a bunch of screenshots SKETCHED on a piece of 8.5x11" paper, the idea of feature complete is pretty tenuous at best…) There is a bug or two left, but it is solid enough for people to start beating on it.. Yay!
This happens just in time for my trip home this weekend… It is a bad time for me to leave, just as the first beta of my software is given to people, but being that other than memorial day weekend I have spent way too many weekends straight working for Rovia, they can give me a break. =)
I am catching a bus to NYC tomorrow at 5:15pm and leaving NYC Monday at 11pm… Should be some good relaxation…. Hopefully the weather will hold out so I can take the new Party Barge out for a spin… =)
I was testing some document uploading code that I honestly didn’t expect to work at all, stepping thru it with the debugger trying to figure out an undocumented API, and later on when I fired up ShareSafe I had a ton of documents listed whose attributes were set to “title” for the title, “author” for the author, “mimetype” for the mime type, etc… The contents of the documents were all “Testing this shit.”….. I guess I should trust my abilities a bit more than I do. =)
Met Jon Whitney for lunch, picked up a bunch of CDs at a bargain… Got the new David Bowie disc “Heathen”, which is really good… I also got replacement copies of Bowie’s albums “Low” and “Lodger” which were ripped off from me a few years ago… I got the new Mum single “Green Grass of Tunnel” and a used Cabaret Voltaire disc, all for like 35 bucks!
After work we went to the Boston Mozilla Release Party which was a fun time, met a bunch of local and not-so-local mozilla developers and users…. Nice to know there are other people out here doing similar things…
Brought my Tivo upstairs, took the drive out, and stuck tnlited (telnetd) back into rc.sysinit. I was surprised to see that the upgrade left /var alone, so all of the binaries I had there are still there. I installed the new version of the Tivo Web Project which is compatible with the 3.0 software and is MUCH nicer than the prior version…. Tons of new features, and it seems faster overall, of course that could be the result of the updated Tivo software.
My Tivo upgraded itself to the new 3.0 software last night, but it unfortunately did this in the middle of a scheduled recording. Even though it was recording the USA vs. South Korea game, it decided to reboot itself at 3am to load the new software. Seems to me it would have been a bit more graceful to make sure there were no scheduled recordings before rebooting… Fortunately they reran the game this afternoon….
It also seems that the Tivo Web Project has released a beta of their software that is compatible with 3.0… I will give it a shot and see if it works well, but first I have to get telnetd running again (it went away during the upgrade from 2.5->3.0, but I expected that).
Missed another deadline…. I was up until 5am and decided I had stopped making progress and went to bed… Of course, the big room was bright at this point, and construction started soon after, so my sleep was pretty sketchy…. Omar is running behind as well, so I don’t feel SO bad, but I still feel pretty shitty.
