Well, I am still working on Count Zero, but I have been making fantastic progress… My previous attempts at the book have sadly stalled around page 30.. This time I was finally drawn in and have been screaming through the book.. My goal is toread a sprawl book a week until I have run out.. So far I am still on schedule, although I am going to have to get cracking to finish this book in the time left..
I was going to head over to non_pod tonight to record another show for Jon’s documentary… But I started feeling funky and decided that a noise show probably wouldn’t be that good of an idea… So I lent the camera to Jon and will just edit the footage once I get it back…
Rory entered some Warcraft III tournament the other day, not sure when it starts but it sounds like his chances are pretty good in it.. It is a US only tournament, and he has a really great rating (he just handed the 4th ranked player his ass a few minutes ago). I guess the grand prize is \$5000 or something like that, so it would be great if he won it.. He might as well enter, as he plays the game as if it were his second job.. :P
Headed over to RRRecords to help Jon Whitney out with a documentary project he has been wanting to work on. There was an instore tonight at RRR and so I went there to film it and also film some interviews as well… Haven’t looked at the footage yet (dailies?), but I think it came out well.. While I was there I found a copy of Scorn’s “Gyral” on vinyl and decided to get it as a gift for Rory, since I know it is his favorite Scorn album… He was very excited. =)
Last night Matt, Frances, and Karen descended upon our fine little villa for a surprise attack. It was Karen’s birthday and apparently the plan was to go out for a “night on the town”, but nobody in our fine little villa knew about said plans.. So after some confusion we got all dressed up and went out for drinks and fun. It’s always cool to hang out with that gang, and it was especially notable because Adam and Helen came along for the festivities this time.
Does anyone know how to edit keymaps in WinXP? I have been using the USB keyboard from the Mac on both machines, but some of the modifier keys are swapped, and I figured I would just edit the keymap and fix the situation..
I think my goal this weekend is to finish Count Zero, the sprawl book that I have never been able to finish.
I went to lunch with Carlos, Mario, Omar, and Pedro (Former Rovia Peeps) at the mall food court. It was good to see those guys, and I managed to go in several stores in the mall without spending a dime. I’m a good boy. =) Afterwards I stopped by the barber to get a haircut as I was starting to look like quite the bushman, and that’s no way to impress the ladies.. =)
Using a manual network configuration instead of DHCP gave the appearance of fixing the problem I am having on this mac, but it cropped it’s head again tonight (although it does appear to be less frequent now, but that could just be an illusion).
I attended the BMac meeting tonight to check it out and hopefully get a few questions answered… They were showing Steve Jobs’ keynote address, which was obscenely long but it was good to be able to check it out.. Met a few cool people there, but didn’t really get to talk to many people.. Got a few leads on some of my problems, but so far they aren’t panning out…
Ran a bunch of errands today before the movie… Went to the Post Office to hand in my passport application… The guy accepted it, then told me to write out two checks (one to the Postmaster Cambridge and one to the state dept.) I stammered and said I didn’t have my checkbook, so I collected my paperwork and returned to my apartment to fetch my checkbook. Then back to the line, and eventually to the window. I handed in my application again, and the lady told me that it would be 4-7 weeks to be delivered. I asked “what happens if I move” to which she answered “They don’t forward them, so it will be returned to the gov’t”. So I had to fill out another application listing my parents’ address as the shipping address since I know I am going to be moving after February, I just don’t know where. So I got a blank application, copied all the information over, and got BACK on line. This time, however, all was well, and I was happily walking away from the post office. I didn’t even get crazy frustrated or anything! =)
Then I went to Harvard Square to get a T pass, for reasons discussed yesterday. With T pass in hand I only have to wait until the end of the month to get my discount.
You want more than that? It was a well directed, well shot film which had one of the worst screenplays ever. It was self-aggrandizing, painfully ironic, and trite. It was predictable with painfully self-aware intent… It was so disappointing that I am having trouble putting it into words…
I am going to shortly stop updating my DVD List over at DVD Profiler in favor of my new one at DVD Aficionado… It doesn’t require any lame client software or anything and is more of what I was looking for all along.. 3 DVD’s are currently missing from that list, as they don’t have the Good Eats DVDs in their database.. I will have to submit them for addition, but those DVDs are currently out on loan to so it will have to wait.
When I was working at Rovia (Hmmm, I wonder when that link will go dead…) I got subway passes through the office (pre-tax). I stopped buying them when I was laid off because I didn’t need them as much (they cost \$35, which costs as much as \$35 rides on the T…) The other day I found someone’s discarded December pass on the ground, and I realized that if I buy a pass for this month I will have 11 passes during one year, which will make me eligible for a 10% discount on my car insurance, which is definately worth the \$35.. So I have to go to Harvard Square today, because it is the last day you can buy a January pass…
