"You'd said you'd do it!!!"

Hank was great last night.. He talked for about 2.5 hours and was right on time.. There were video cameras all over the place, so perhaps he will be releasing a video/dvd from this tour. It was a blast, and I am already looking forward to seeing him again next tour.

Chuck is in the shower now and after lunch he will be heading back to NJ (which sucks). I guess it’s time to get back to real life, though… :)

For eyelid

Hey Hannah, if it makes you feel any better, I am not depressed in the least… Things have been going great on many levels for me… Of course, I’m still unemployed, but why get so nit-picky when everything else is good..

Fun With Chuck

grahams - - 1 min read

So Chuck has been here since Saturday afternoon and we have been fun tearing up the town. Saturday we just kinda grabbed dinner and hung around the house playing video games because it was a long day for him. Sunday we went to Jillians for awhile and I kicked his ass in Silent Scope 2. Afterwards we went to meet up with Corinna at the Sunday Night Film Club to see Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which was alot of fun. After the movie we hit up this bar just off the Common for dinner and drinks, and ended up staying at the bar for about 4 hours…

Last night Chuck and I walked around Harvard Square and Porter Square (the Porter Exchange asian mall, to be exact) and eventually ended up at Flattop Johnny’s last night for some pool… Today we are going to grab some lunch in a few minutes and later we are heading over to Boston Billiards Club to shoot some pool before catching Henry Rollins tonight.

Omg

Space Shuttle Columbia has fallen to pieces on reentry this morning. Don’t think this could possibly be terrorism… Were talking like Mach 6 at 200,000ft… God, you know there is risk with every spaceflight, but still….

Even Slashdot is funny on occasion

grahams - - 2 mins read

There was a (rehash of a very old) story on slashdot about Gibson’s new MAGIC interconnect standard, which basically sticks an ethernet jack on the side of your guitar to provide a digital connection between the guitar and the amp. Don’t see why this is a good thing, but whatever; Never have I been one to stand in the way of digital, i mean, it must be better, it’s digital.

Anyway, someone in the comments for that story asked why they weren’t using wireless, to which I, thinking I was making a clever funny ha-ha enclosing an actual concern, replied (which I rarely do):

" Think Spinal Tap [imdb.com]… Remember the scene at the military base? Obviously radio interference would manifest itself differently with MAGIC, but it is still a concern, and one that roadies and performers probably don’t want to have to worry about.. On top of that, MAGIC supports up to Gigabit Ethernet, bandwidth that current wireless networking can’t really approach.."

Someone responded with the funniest thing I have heard in a long time:

“Yeah, but this one would go to 802.eleven.”

That’s some funny shit… I’ve been reading Slashdot for a very long time (user #5366, fwiw), and usually it’s complete trash, and that’s before you consider the forums… I have my comment threshold set to +4 and I still see shit comments written by morons.. But every once in awhile someone really makes me laugh… Even more infrequently someone says something interesting.. I think that site is more like a train-wreck I can’t peel my eyes from… If it disappeared tomorrow I wouldn’t shed a tear, but in the time being I will continue to read it like a fucking lemming.

Did I ever mention how my mother, father, and my one sister (don’t think Aimee ever set one up) have been LJ users longer than you (well, there are a few of you out there that beat them, but not many)… My family is cooler than yours… If only they would actually write in the damn things.. :)

iDVD: Sweet

grahams - - 2 mins read

iDVD is just as nice as it always looked… I ran through Apple’s tutorial and it worked like a champ, even with my non-Apple DVD-R/RW drive (I have Cendyne’s DVR-105, which is really just a Pioneer). I burned the tutorial to a DVD-RW disc (since I didn’t want to waste a real disc), and it played like a champ in the Mac, but since none of the DVD players in this house like playing RW discs, I was unable to test it on the TV. But I’m sure it would have worked fine if I had burned it to a DVD-R disc, but i’m not willing to do that for a bunch of “new picture-frame” sample movies… The media isn’t cheap enough for me to squander it like that. :)

I am going to import some more of the footage from the documentary I have been working on with Jon, and maybe if it is good enough I will burn it to a DVD-R and give it a look. Regardless, iDVD is really slick, and I look forward to playing around with it… It is leagues better than the Windows DVD (all of which fall into the same “non-pro” category as iDVD) software I have played with… Now I am going to play around with the new iMovie a bit.

Hmmmm..

Hopefully iDVD will believe that my DVD-R is a SuperDrive. Guess I will know after a quick reboot…

Chicago

Chicago was a blast, way better than I expected… I mean, I expected it to be good, but it was really good.. I’m glad I have a new friend who actually likes movies, as opposed to all the other fakers I know… :)

Where to start...

grahams - - 2 mins read

I haven’t really talked about what’s been going on in life for a few days, so here’s a bit of catch-up:

If you enjoy the work of William Gibson then I highly recommend watching the biographical documentary “No Maps for These Territories” if you can. It’s a well-made documentary and it is an interesting look at Gibson. And as this is an independent film being released on video/dvd independently, if you can you might want to consider buying the film.

Today I cleaned my “bed clothes” (as some of you seem to call them). I can wash my sheets here, but my comforter needs to go to the laundromat (it’s oversized queen and also overstuffed, so it would burn my washing machine out real-quick-like). It didn’t really need to be washed in the “dirty” sense, but it was shedding lots of little fuzzies and I figured a good wash might get rid of some of that. Unfortunately, though, the dryer I picked was apparently busted and it took me 2 rounds of putting quarters in, leaving, coming back, finding it wet, and repeating before I realized it was busted.. I moved to a different machine and everything was hunky-dory..

Adam and I met up with a bunch of Rovia peeps for lunch at Redbones, which was awesome. Adam and I were supposed to go see Gangs of New York today but the douchebag decided he didn’t feel like going… Hopefully someone will go with me before it exits the theaters, or else I am going to have to go alone, which feels way too Kaczynski for me…

Tomorrow I am going to see Chicago with my new friend Corinna in Harvard Square… Up until this point I have always maintained that I never found Catherine Zeta-Jones that attractive, but the trailers of this film have definately changed this opinion.

Angel Dust

Through much empirical analysis and data collection I have come to realize that Faith No More’s album “Angel Dust” is, in fact, a perfect album.

If you don’t own it, you should. That is all.
