As I wipe the drool off of my chin

I love living in a place where things happen:

From November 17-22, Drew Daniel and Martin Schmidt, a composing-performing duo who call themselves MATMOS, will be in residence at Harvard under the auspices of Learning From Performers. Based in San Francisco, MATMOS’s diverse output combines musique concrete, field recordings, live instrumentation, and electronic manipulation which incorporates phrases and sampling of both their own and others’ source material. The duo’s biggest claim to fame is their association with singer-composer Björk, who engaged them to open for and play back-up on her “Vespertine” tour last spring.

Matmos has released several CDs; their most recent, “The Chance to Cut is the Chance to Cure” on the Matador label, grew out of recordings taken of surgical procedures (both Drew and Martin’s fathers are surgeons).

Drew and Martin’s Harvard residency will begin with a lecture-performance on Sunday, November 17, at 7 pm in Science Center Hall B. (Admission is free and open to the general public.)
