I dropped my Archos this morning and about halfway through my walk to work this morning it stopped playing… I took out my earphones and hear the ever-so-familiar “marbles-on-sheet-metal” sound of a failing hard disk…
So perhaps I will pick up an iPod today… I hate unplanned purchases, but I also have grown very accustomed to having lots of music available for my 30 minute walk to and from work each day…
so the only thing wrong iwth the archos is the hard disk?
thinking of selling it?
Problems
See, that’s the trouble: It APPEARS that it is solely a hard disk fault, but it was a pretty high drop and I would hate to lay out money on a replacement disk to find out that there are problems elsewhere.
I tried to buy an iPod at the apple store on lunch break but they only had the 5GB ones and I was looking for a 10, so that mission failed.. Perhaps I will buy a replacement disk for the Archos, I don’t know…
Re: Problems
understood. you don’t have any spare laptop around at all that you could yoink the hard disk out of and try?
:/
regardless; good luck to ya.
Re: Problems
Hehehe, I have my Thinkpad 750Cs which has a 300Mb SCSI Laptop drive in it.. :)
Re: Problems
well, it’d be a pain in the butt to yank it (and subsequently re-format) but it might be worth it to see if the archos is still usable…
or just use this opportunity to buy an iPod as you originally planned. ;)
Re: Problems
I think the key word you missed was *SCSI*… :)
Re: Problems
I didn’t know what the archos was capable of…
Re: Problems
Oh, heh, I assumed that since you were asking if it were for sale that you had some “master plan”… :)
No, it has an ATAPI interface…
So perhaps I will pick up an iPod today…
for mac or pc?? MAC OR PC?????
Being that I don’t have a Mac…
ah, but that whole “almost bought a tiBook (or whatever)” thing
heh, but I didn’t end up getting one… As I said, I think I am going to wait until I am sure I have a job past december before I lay out that kind of cash… Things are looking promising at work, but until I hear a firm “yes” or “no” I am keeping my money in the bank. :)
