Motorama Pics and Video

grahams - - 1 min read

I added the pics I took yesterday to my Gallery, as well as the two video files I shot on my digital camera when the battery on my DV cam died yesterday. It’s going to be awhile before I get a chance to edit down the DV footage as I am moving back to Boston tomorrow, but hopefully it won’t be too long.

Ugh

Yesterday was a lot of fun, if not completely exhausting. did about as well as he hoped in Yesterday’s competition, finishing about halfway through the pack. He hasn’t competed in a few years, and he didn’t really get much practice in given the weather, so he did really well. And he got better as the day went on too. I got some good video of most of his riding, but it will probably take awhile to get it edited down. Towards the end of the day, the batteries died on my DVcam, so I reverted to taking movies with my digital “still” camera. I can probably get some of those up later today.

Last night, even though I was still exhausted, Chuck and I went over Johnny’s to watch Pirates of the Caribbean, which they hadn’t seen yet. I could barely keep my eyes open, and I crashed pretty hard when I got home at 12:30a. Today I have to pack up for the trip to Boston tomorrow, figuring out what I need to bring with me, etc. I haven’t really packed anything so this will probably consume a good chunk of today. I have to go spelunking downstairs to find my stuff, because due to the kitchen construction a whole melange of other stuff has been stored in front of and above my stuff…

Tonight I am doing dinner with the fam, not sure where we are going but if tradition holds it will probably be my choice. I guess I should give some thought to that.

In the Type-S, headed out to Harrisburg with for Motorama. He is competing in the Amateur Bicycle Trials competition this morning, and I am coming along to cheer him on and videotape. Should be fun, plus, I have never been to the glorious capital of Pennsyltucky before…

I can’t believe I get service out here….

Updated my CD List

I went through my CD List and added all of the discs I downloaded through eMusic when I was a member. This was a pretty seriously boring task, but it is something I have been wanting to do and figured I had better do it before I started working again. :)

Friday Five

When was the last time you…

  1. …went to the doctor? A few years ago when gave me that crazy sore throat ninja.
  2. …went to the dentist? Just after I lost my job, so about a year ago.
  3. …filled your gas tank? Yesterday.
  4. …got enough sleep? Today.
  5. …backed up your computer?
  • Powermac: I did a full homedir backup onto DVD-RW about two months ago, and do periodic backups of my homedir/documents to the fileserver every week or so. I guess it would be a good idea to do a new full backup, now wouldn’t it?
  • PC: I never really back this machine up, because I don’t really do any real work on it.. I play games, and do some TiVo video editing, but nothing that really needs constant backups.
  • CSH Homedir: Even though CSH does pretty much constant backups of its systems to the RIT Networker system, I still tar.bz2 up my homedir and copy it to my file server here. Call it paranoia, but I like to be in control of my backups.

My fileserver is getting full, but with a job I should be able to buy some new diskspace for it. I plan on getting two 200G+ disks and run mirroring on them to replace the 100G of disk I have in there. Once that is in place, I will have a more automated backup process for my machines…

Ouch

I went over James’ tonight to check out his hyper-rad video projector he got recently. We watched Bad Taste on his wall, it rocked.

On the way out, his steps were really icy and I biffed hard, scraping my knuckles like a snowboarder, except instead of dragging them through snow, I was dragging them “through” brick. This sucks much more than snow, I’ll have you know. I slipped on the first step and landed on my back, sliding all the way down 6 or so steps to the bottom. I swear, as I slipped past each step, my head clunking, I heard the signature Looney Toons “falling down stairs” piano roll.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who sent their regards in response to yesterday’s post regarding my new job. It’s weird, I am amped about the offer, but I still don’t think the full impact has occured yet. It might not until I am either packing belongings this weekend or actually start work in a week or two (once the drug test comes back).

Goodrich sent me the DSS security clearance application, which looks really long but manageable. I have to iterate all of the places I have lived in the past 10 years, which has me wondering if I am supposed to list my Grace Watson Hall (later NRH) RIT Post Office address or my actual room number in the various buildings… If it’s the latter I am going to have to do some digging to find out what room is which… Any of you spooks reading this encounter this problem when filling out the form?

Finally.....

Today I got a job offer from Goodrich, for the position I interviewed for. I have to be in Woburn for a physical and drug test on Tuesday, and I will start some time soon after the results come back. I can’t even express how relieved and excited I am!

Bored out of my mind

I am just completely, totally, utterly bored today… Still no word on the job at Goodrich… Tomorrow will be a week since the interview, perhaps I will do a follow up call if I don’t hear anything…

Rock On New Jersey!

The music industry considers Michele Scimeca a pirate. The Morris County mom has her own term for record executives:

Racketeers.

In what legal experts described as a novel strategy, Scimeca is citing federal racketeering laws like the one that jailed mob boss John Gotti to countersue record labels that accused her in December of sharing some 1,400 copyrighted songs over the Internet.

The Rockaway Township woman, who claims she was targeted for her teenager’s school research project, is among hundreds of individuals sued by the music industry since last summer. Another 531 computer users were sued yesterday in “John Doe” suits filed in Trenton, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Orlando. […]
