Thanks , who is hooking me up with a free CacheCard for my Tivo, which should speed up lots of the program database functions by caching the entire program database on a 512MB DIMM.

Hehehehe

I just got an email from Security here at work letting me know that another item was added to the list of objects banned from premises.

Múm again

About two years ago I saw Múm play on their first US tour at the 608 Club (Don’t look for it, it’s not there anymore) in Somerville. It was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years, possibly forever. I just bought tickets for their show on the 23rd at the MFA (in the courtyard) for myself, , , and . It appears that they are playing two shows the same night, so I got tickets for the later show (8:30pm).

Thanks Guys

<Sean> Hey guys, I wanted to thank you for tipping me off that the new Mum album was released almost two months ago. I know I am usually on top of new releases and whatnot, but with starting work and all the travel I’ve been doing, I guess it slipped through the cracks.

<Friends> Um, Sean, We forgot to tell you about the release.

<Sean> Yeah, no shit.

Slept surprisingly well last night, I feel totally well rested today (probably by virtue of not taking any long trips… :) I have a dentist appointment today, just a cleaning and dose of radiation, but it doesn’t change the fact I hate the dentist…

Life of Brian was as good as always last night, but it was great seeing it in a theater. After we got back from the SNFC, and I watched the season finale of The Sopranos. Wow.

Holy Crap

My family adopted a new dog yesterday, and boy is it damn cute. It doesn’t have a name yet; nobody seemed to be interested in my suggestion: Twisp.

Foxwoods was alot of fun yesterday, but I only made 9 bucks… I would have liked to stay longer, but Garrett and Lund weren’t as serious about Poker as , , and I are… :) Today is Life of Brian with the Sunday Night Film Club, should be a hoot.

The Wonder of it All

I looked on the listings for On Demand but their selection of Good Eats episodes was lacking. None of the episodes I now need were listed, which sucks. I took the Mac down last night and removed the borked drive… The OS was polling it trying to figure out what was going on and it was making the machine act wonky. I thought that my DVD-R would magcially start working again once I removed that drive, but alas, that isn’t the case.

Garrett, Rory, and I are heading to Foxwoods tomorrow for some Texas Fold’Em. If anyone’s interested drop a line.

It is common for interviewers to substitute bracketed text for the subjects words in order to paraphrase for brevity or clarity.

Example: I took Washington Street, Market Street, and Western Ave to work today. [Those streets] were terribly backed up for no apparent reason.

I have seen this convention used for a very long time…. The thing is, I don’t ever remember being taught what it means.. Did I just infer the meaning of the brackets from repeated observation or was I taught this explicitly? How about you?

Grumble

My “Stuff” (a.k.a. “sitchmo”) drive died in my Mac at home… Not sure when it bit the dust, but it was probably recently because I copied that Tivo data to it not so long ago. Fortunately, I had almost everything on the drive backed up to DVD-Rs. Unfortunately, this backup does not include the two latest episodes of Good Eats (“Top Banana” and “Toast Modern”) as well as the one-hour Salt special. They will probably be re-run relatively soon, though. It also just occured to me that they might be on Food Network On Demand, so I will have to dig up the Cable TV remote when I get home and maybe I can make things move that way.

On the Michigan trip and I listened to the Audible.com recording of The DaVinci Code (Unabridged). I’m about halfway through the book now, and I have to say that so far I am not very impressed. Dan Brown, the author, seems to constantly condescend and speak down to his readers, repeating the same information over and over. And his pattern of “We are leading up to a discovery…. Here it comes…. Wait for it….. The characters have discovered… end of chapter” gets real old and predictable very fast. He is constantly alluding to things that happen or have been discovered without actually ever getting to them… I almost wish at this point I had gotten the Abridged version, just so I didn’t have to sit through his painfully unnecessary dialogue and adjective abuse.
