Rockaway Township

I just picked up The Dillinger Escape Plan with Mike Patton EP “Irony is a Dead Scene”. I was reading the liner notes and noticed “Mike Patton would like to thank the Los Angeles Lakers and the Rockaway Township Police Department”. Hehe…

For the uninitiated, Rockaway is two towns over from my parents house in NJ, as well as home of the Rockaway Townsquare mall, where I held several jobs…

For the even further uninitiated, I played basketball with the drummer ( Chris Pennie) of The Dillinger Escape Plan back in the good ol’ Hopatcong Middle School…

The CD itself is spectacular… I never was able to get that into DEP thanks to their (former) vocalist… This CD is a one-off (?) pairing of DEP and Patton, but perhaps I will check out their new vocalist when that CD comes out… By the way, there is a fantastic cover of “Come to Daddy” on this CD…

I also found the Phantomsmasher debut for 9.99 at Newbury Comics… I wasn’t going to pick it up, but Jon’s recommendation combined with the low price made it a no-brainer…

Peril

I came perilously close to purchasing a Powerbook G4 today but fortunately came to my senses.. Hehe… Actually, I will probably get one in a few months, but I would rather know that my job was secure before laying out that kind of cash… Plus I am sure that the next iteration of Powerbooks will be introduced early next year…

But I came REAL close today… :)

Greece Bans Video Games

This is the most ludicrous thing I have heard in awhile. In an effort to stop illegal gambling, Greece (the nation, of course) has banned video games. What the fuck is that about?

Paging Dr. Octagon

Had alot of fun doing nothing of import this weekend. Played lots of Mario this weekend and watched a ton of Good Eats, but that was about it… Was hoping to hang out with Karen this weekend but she didn’t end up in Boston..

It doesn’t look like I will be making it to Welcome Back this year… Having the party on Sunday makes it really difficult for those who have to travel long distances yet still work on Monday.

"She Didn't Count!"

Today is Food Network’s Good Eats marathon! They have shown one episode so far (Mission: Poachable), and it was new to me (and here I was thinking I had seen them all). This should fatten up the archive (which is now almost 50% complete!)

I found a hack to let my Tivo control the cable box via the serial port on the box as opposed to the IR blaster doohickeys… It is faster and more reliable, but one advantage I didn’t expect is that the Tivo is now aware of what channel the box is tuned to. Now, if the Tivo is recording two programs back-to-back on the same station (like today’s marathon), it doesn’t retune the station for the second program (it just stays put). The advantage of this is that I don’t have to see the annoying cable box banner at the beginning of every episode…

This is my favorite television program.

The episode on now is “Churn, Baby, Churn” which is on ice cream…. We just got an ice cream maker, and watched this episode earlier this week, so I am going to jump in the shower while it is on.. But it is a great episode, and makes a Blade Runner joke. ( Update: No it doesn’t, the Blade Runner joke was in the Jam episode…) Watch it!

Death Pool

Someone here at work is running a death pool (where you try and predict what celebrities will die during a given period). Our pool is only running to the end of the year, so I had to make some big guesses to try and accumulate serious points… We are going to start a yearlong one in January, so I will have more time to play then

  • Robert Downey, Jr.
  • Hamid Karzai (Afghan President)
  • Jonathan Davis (Lead Singer of Korn, and this pick is mostly wishful thinking)
  • Michael Jackson
  • George W. Bush
  • Kelsey Grammer
  • Michael J. Fox
  • Dolly Parton
  • Snoop Dogg (Again, wishful thinking)
  • Calista Flockhart

Mental Note

Don’t play Super Monkey Ball 2 with Rory and Matt until 5am when you have to go to work the next day.
