I know a bunch of people who use AmphetaDesk, but I have no idea how it compares to NNW.
Try NewsMonster for Mozilla.
I tried NewsMonster a few days ago, but it completely fucked up Mozilla on me (all the chrome misrendered, etc). I had to manually uninstall it… I guess I will give in another chance…
