Just checked with Verizon, and I can’t get DSL yet, but my area is scheduled to be upgraded sometime in June or July, so I will be able to get it soon. :) I guess I will have to get a dialup ISP for the time being. I am going to see if the cable guy knows anything about Cable Modems in my area when he comes by to install my cable today.
I have to leave work early today, since the cable guy is coming, and afterwards James will be arriving later today, he is going to be here for the weekend, and on Monday we are going to the Middle East to see Autechre play (with Matmos opening)… Should be fun!
I have been listening to this album a whole lot lately… When I first heard it back when it was released I really had trouble with it, but it has definately grown on me in the past few months…
On the train ride in today I saw some kind of school official guy directing a bunch of kids around… He was wearing a shirt, tie, and shorts. That is simply lame.
My first day was fairly cool yesterday, but it was spent mostly trying to build the tree (which I finally successfully completed) and filling out paperwork (which I haven’t quite finished yet). I did the ride home, and started some laundry after I got there.
As I was leaving the laundromat, my mother called me to inform me that my Grandma had passed away. While I am none too happy about this, I have to say that if I had to go, I would want it to be chilling on the couch in my own home, under my own care, on a beautiful spring day, with the windows open, watching some television. She passed away peacefully and on her own terms, which is all she ever asked for. I am happy it worked out the way she wanted.
I am not going to be able to go home for the funeral, mostly because it is my first few days of work, and I am broke, but I can’t say that I am unhappy about that. I hate funerals (i can’t imagine that anyone enjoys them), but more importantly, I hate the idea of funerals (and as far as I can tell, my grandma did as well)…. My grandmother’s passing leaves a void in my life, but I don’t believe that mourning is in order…. She lived happily, died happily and in peace… Needless to say, it was a long night last night….
Today is my first day at my new job, which means lots of paperwork and setup. I have been working on getting the dev tree checked out and setup on my machine.. Whee…
In a few minutes me and my ‘rents are making the trip to Boston… Amazingly, most of my stuff (save a few books and my Trek fit in the two cars…. I won’t have an ISP for a few days, so you probably won’t hear from me until Tuesday, when I start work.
Talk about lag, The Reporter published my playlist just this week! Thanks to Marisa for the heads-up (cause you can be damn sure that I am not reading the Reporter anymore.. :P)
I finished my overnight trip to Boston to move some stuff into my new apartment! On second look at the apartment, it is definately nice, but I was wrong about the “recently redone floors” (they were recently coated, but not sanded). That’s ok thought, because they still aren’t bad. Adam really liked my apartment, and it is only about a 5-10 minute walk from his place, which is way cool too. I am within a 3 minute walk of Cleveland Circle, and therefore lots of other stuff as well. :) Should be a really fun place to live.
Sprint PCS was good about helping me change my service/phone # to a Boston area, but my voicemail is still screwed… I have been trying to work with them for a few days, but no luck…. I assume they will finally straighten it out in a few days (otherwise we will have words.. :P).
