I butchered up my first chicken a few minutes ago… I had always purchased precut birds in the past, but Alton recommended on his show “Fry Hard II: The Chicken” to cut up your own birds… After doing it, it isn’t that difficult, although I need better knives and some more practice… This is all in preparation for some good Pan-Fried Chicken tomorrow… mmmmmm…
Good Eats has to be my favorite show on television today (perhaps tied with The Sopranos, of course)…
Adam, Rory, Frances, and Matt came over for awhile and we had some wings from Wing-It before we started watching The Godfather II. One of Adam’s friends called and invited us all out to a bar for a few drinks, but I didn’t feel like going. They all went, and are coming back later to finish the movie (which we only got 11 minutes into)… About 3 minutes after they left I was on the toilet emptying my bowels (too much information, sure, but it’s my journal, so piss off), so it was probably a good choice to stay. :)
I am downloading the iso for FreeBSD 4.4, since I am currently running 4.2 and since I plan on using this machine as a fileserver once I get my new machine in a few weeks, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to prepare…
I did a review of two recently released Skinny Puppy DVDs for the Brainwashed Brain weekly rag. Check it out (towards the bottom of the page).
I have accomplished many annoying tasks today, including laundry, weeding through my clothes (successfully) trying to find stuff to put in the donation box, cleaning up around here, and listening to music rather loudly. I will probably catch a midnight showing of Citizen Toxie tonight and catch Mulholland Dr. tomorrow afternoon/evening….
Finally, The Godfather Trilogy has been released on DVD, and finally my copy of it arrived. I preordered it months ago due to some then soon-to-expire discounts I had at Amazon.. Rory, Frances, and Matt came over and we watched the first movie… It has been so long since I have seen the whole thing, and I can’t even remember the last time I saw part 2… The DVD was pristine (leaving out a few scratches/pocket lint on the print), given it’s age… I am going to play around with the special features disc a bit now…
Ok, I have been meaning to post this for weeks, but I kept forgetting soon after arriving at work. You wanna know what is really funny? Little “Emergency Panels”, covered by little pieces of glass are found in many buses, fire alarm systems, and other “panic” devices. What’s funny about these? Well, often they are accompanied by little hammers for use in breaking the little glass in order to get to the little lever…. That’s funny shit.
Ok…. Perhaps I am behind the ball, or perhaps just dumb, but I am very let down. For years, I have been operating under the assumption that " i18n" was some acronym (of course I was never interested to further investigate), but it turns out that it really just a lame shortening of “internationalization” (“i”, 18 other letters, “n”)…. How lame… Of course, following the same thinking, l10n is a lame shortening of “localization”….
On the train ride home from the conference call yesterday I had a potential epiphany; It could be that I solved a problem I hadn’t even started to work on yet. Time to do some research into XML and Entities.
I am certainly sick today, and I stayed home to help nurture myself back to health… It turns out that I forgot about a conference call I was scheduled to participate in today, so I am going in to work for a little while… I will probably leave directly after the call, though (so I can come back and sleep again. :P).
I will probably go home early for some rest today… Adam left early, and since I really need him around to TRULY get a lot of work done, I will probably bail in a little bit. I will use this time to clean up the code a bit more though, since that is mainly mindless.
