After work I went over Adam’s to grab the boxes he picked up for me…. The boxes sell for a hair less than 2 bucks a piece, and I gave Adam \$20 and expected 10 boxes… Well, when Adam got there the guy behind the counter said “I will give you 25 for \$20 bucks, you know, so I don’t have to ring up the sale…” Riiiight… :) Anyway, so the boxes were cheaper than I expected!
We went to Kokopeli Chili for dinner, and we both got the combo meals (3 kinds of chili w/ chips) but we got different kinds… Adam wasn’t too thrilled, but I really enjoyed 2/3 of the ones I had. The one that wasn’t so hot was their “hottest” chili which wasn’t that hot at all, but instead tasted like IPA (they must have put way too much beer in it)… It just had this strong taste, and being that I don’t like beer, I could do without that.. :)
On the way home from work today I stopped to pick up the new Boards of Canada album Geogaddi, and while I was there I also scored a Dan “The Automator” compiliation that has a bunch of his remixes and songs he has done with other people. I mean, I like Dan, but I really bought it for the title: “Wanna Buy a Monkey?” It made me laugh.. :)
Adam just left work early, he is leaving for his vacation at Heavenly tomorrow and needs to do a few errands before he goes. Fortunately, for me, one of those errands is buying boxes, so I gave him some cash and should have 10 boxes by this evening… Perhaps I will even do some packing before I go to bed.
I think some time his year (2002) I am going to take a real vacation… I’m not sure where I am gonna go, or who I am gonna go with, but I think I could use a real “go somewhere” vacation….
Today I was notified that DSL is ready to go on March 1st in my new apartment, so in theory I can just move my equipment from one apartment to another and be ready to go. I called to transfer my cable service, but since I am moving to the other side of the river (which is serviced by a different ‘branch’ of AT&T) I had to cancel/reorder. My new address isn’t in their database yet (since it is virtually a new construction) so they are going to call me back a bit later after they do some running on their end.
Hopefully I can get all this crap worked out before too long, as I would like to be up and running with minimal downtime.. :)
The fucking mouse is back. I have seen him twice since I originally reported on him, but I just saw him again. I have also found droppings for the first time, which really aggravates me… I strapped on my shoes, and I came really close (as in feet, not as in “convincing myself”) to stomping him a few minutes ago, but he got away. I want him dead (piss off, PETA, I don’t care…)
I have been working on an XUL/XPCOM LiveJournal client on and off for awhile now… Last night I finally figured out how Mozilla’s XML-RPC client component works and I also figured out how LJ uses XML-RPC, so I sat down this morning, wrote cnILiveJournalClient.idl and got cracking. I decided to write the implementation of cnILiveJournalClient in JavaScript for compile-free cross-platform goodness… Since I am not really doing anything too complicated it won’t be that annoying… When I am done I can bundle the whole thing up into an .xpi that will work for any mozilla user on any platform. This is a good thing.
I wrote a skeleton implementation of the interface and shoved it in moz’s components directory, along with the xpt (cross-platform typelib; a sort of compiled IDL file) and moz bitched at me… I spent about an hour assuming it was my problem, but then I decided to copy the xpt and implementation of moz’s nsISample interface into the components directory…. I got the same error! So, apparently something changed in the latest builds of mozilla, which kinda pisses me off… I posted to netscape.public.mozilla.xpcom, and I hope I get an answer soon, because I know that if I don’t get a large portion of this work done today (on my day off) this project will take weeks to finish (due to my workload at my job).
I was contemplating going into work for awhile tomorrow, but I don’t think I feel like it… I think I will try and procure some boxes and continue packing up my stuff. I did some packing today, mostly throwing crap I didn’t need away, packing up clothes to donate to Planet Aid, and the like. I threwout about one garbage bag worth of stuff and donated about the same. I did get one plastic bin packed full of my Atari 2600s and all the associated joysticks & paddles, as well as controllers for my Playstation and 3DO.
The other night I finally broke down and ordered a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. I ordered a refurbished RRK5A (in “Azure Blue”) directly from Kitchenaid which ended up saving me a ton of money (around \$125-150). This will make my culinary life much easier, especially now that I am trying to get more into baking cookies and bread.
