Should I be a real dickhead and ask this interview candidate tough questions like “Explain the Fragile Base Class problem in OOP”?
So I am going to see Dr. John tomorrow to get my tooth fixed… I am sure I will be notified that I need tons of other dental work as well… Oh well, It is time to start acting like an adult, I suppose… :)
In a few minutes I need to interview someone, which will be my first interview of a technical candidate… I don’t know what I am going to ask yet, so hopefully I won’t completely blank out… It is nice to think that we are considering hiring someone, as we sure could use the extra set of hands here.
I read today that there is going to be a big Ipecac Recordings bash in NYC on Halloween this year… Tomahawk, FantomasMelvins Big Band… I am so there…
I have this open sore thing going on, and today I lose a gigantic filling out of one of my molars… And I am sure that the dentist is going to have a blast with my mouth…. Time to get my healthcare back on track, I guess….
I am waiting for Mozilla 1.0 RC1 to finish checking out…. That’s right, Rovia has FINALLY begun the move to a newer version of Mozilla (for those just tuning in, we have been using 0.9.1 for almost a year now). Not only that, but we are going to stop doing all the funky DLL combining trickery that we had been doing (which is what made it take so much time for us to move to a newer version of Mozilla, which in turn kept us using 0.9.1 for so long.. :P). It took me a little while to convince the boss that the DLL combining was just silly “security through obfuscation” and that if we slightly extended our other security code we could accomplish a simliar goal but with REAL effects (as opposed to the silly obfuscative effects we were seeing).
Today is my one-year anniversary at Rovia, and I am celebrating it at home, working (right now) in my underwear… :) I plan on jumping in the shower in a few, though, so I should be a little less naked soon enough.. Anyway, in the past year there were many times where I thought I would be out of a job, but after a year, I am glad things held themselves together… While working at Rovia (as any startup) can be stressful, I really enjoy the work I am doing and the people I work with…
I ran a few errands yesterday on my way to and from the doctor, as well as while I was waiting for the nasty mouth-rinse. I bought a UPS, as I have wanted to get one for many moons now…. I went with a 900va Conext one, which are really APC’s but way cheaper… I believe was the person who discovered the company, but tons of people I know have them now… (there are 3 of them in this house… :P).
Then, continuing with the backup theme, I rented a Safe Deposit box for the year to have a safe place to keep important documents as wel as backups of my machine.. I got a 3"x10"x(Really Deep) box and it was \$80 for the year… I haven’t put anything in it yet, but I will probably stop over there when I decide to get some lunch today… I have a few CD-Rs and some insurance records (list of CDs, DVDs, renters insurance policies, etc).
Anyway, I am going to take a shower then get to work… My throat was seriously painful again this morning, but I think it was mostly because it was dry… But once I swished that mouth-rinse the pain subsided, and the advil should kick in to supplement that…
My throat hurts again…. This is gonna suck…
The doctor lied… He said that this oral napalm concoction would taste good, but it tastes god-awful…. Just remember sean, only 4 times a day…. shiver….
Update: For as awful as it tastes, it did make my throat feel much better… I guess it’s worth it… :P
The doctor took a look at my throat… I don’t have strep throat, which is good, but apparently the sore throat is caused by some nice open sores on the left side of my throat! Yummy! He gave me a prescription for some 4-way mouthwash concoction that has all kinds of good stuff to get rid of this pain… He said that it should be gone in a day or two after this treatment. He also advised that I stay home from work tomorrow to avoid contagion… I asked him “Since my throat is the only thing that is bothering me, and i am not dizzy or anything, would it be alright to work from home?” He said it wouldn’t be a problem, so that’s good… :)
The nurse took my blood pressure before seeing the doctor, and she said that I had “Fantastic” blood pressure (110/60, which sounds a bit low to me…) I should probably go back for a physical…. It’s been 6 years since my last one…. But it is hard to justify when you feel pretty damn healthy… ;)
The goop that the doctor prescribed to me had to be assembled, and I had to go to 3 different pharmacies before I found one that had all the stuff necessary to make it…. I have to go back in an hour and change to pick it up…
Ok, I normally avoid going to the doctor unless I need to, but I guess I feel I need to… The past few days I have had a progressively worsening sore throat, and starting last night it transitioned from sore to really painful… It truly feels like there are open sores on the back of my throat, and since Adam had similar symptoms a week or two ago that caused him to go on antibiotics and develop an ear infection, I figured I would have the doctor check it out to nip anything nasty in the bud. So I have to go down to Brookline at 11:30a to see a doctor, which will be the first time I have done so since living here in Boston. Wish me luck!
