Shine Get

Played a bit of Super Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball 2 once I finally got home this evening…. It’s games like this that make me happy I invested in the GameCube.

I only played a bit of SMB2, because it really shines in multiplayer and no one was around… The single player “story mode” is really funny… There is some great engrish floating around, as well as an absurd plot, but it is pretty funny… They have made the single player mode way-less annoying than it was in the first game, but it is still only a little fun.. The real fun in the game comes from the mini-games… Fortunately, 6 of the 12 mini games are unlocked from the get-go, but unfortunately the other 6 aren’t.. This means you have to play through the single-player accumulating points to unlock the other games. I hate this style of gaming, if I buy a game, I should be able to play it how I feel. I shouldn’t be forced to play the single player mode if I don’t want to… But I digress..

SMS is amazing, I played it for a few hours and it totally sucked me in… The premise is no less absurd than SMB2, but the game is so fun and beautiful it makes up for it.. It looks like a big game, too, so I hopefully will get to play it for awhile… My one complaint about Luigi’s Mansion was how short it was… Luigi was way-fun, but too short, so hopefully they have learned from their errors…

So I had to rush a big change in for today, I cranked on it last night and this morning, and finished it this evening.. Somewhere during the day I was informed that these changes needed to be made to our “June” cvs branch. No problem, I continued working on the trunk and figured I would just move the changes over to the branch once it was all solid… But after I finished I realized that I hadn’t checked out the branch since installing XP on this machine, so I had to do that… Our tree is really big, so that took like 20 minutes….

I then began the build process, which can take a long time, and since I was actually using my machine (as opposed to going crazy staring at make process after make process returning), it took a particularly long time… So an hour and a half later (a.k.a. about 5 minutes ago) I had a fully built system and moved the changes over and tested them in the (short) time since.

Now, as opposed to sitting here for 2.5 hours doing nothing other than forcing myself to read web pages that I wasn’t even interested in, I could have done this checkout and build at home and broken in my unplayed copies of Super Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball 2 which I picked up on lunch break today…

I’m a dumbass, but I am a dumbass who is now going home…

Chthulu for President

Saw a guy in a great t-shirt this weekend at six flags:

“Chthulu for President: Why Vote for the Lesser Evil?”

And a success

Went to the dentist today to get two out of three cavities filled (the remaining one was on the other side of my mouth and I didn’t want to be completely gimped up). It all went well, and the one that was grossing me out (one of my front bottom teeth) has finally been fixed up. The dentist also told me that I have to go for that “minor procedure” (which I now know is called “Crown Lengthening”)… Apparently I even have to wait for a few months after this procedure before I can get the permanent crown fitted, so I will be stuck with the temporary one for awhile longer…

I decided to work from home after my dental experience so I didn’t have to deal with my coworkers giving me shit for drooling and dribbling water down my shirt…

Six Flags was a blast! The weather was wonderful, and since Frances’ brother Tom works there, we got in for free. The lines were not that bad, and the rides were fantastic. The Superman coaster is the best ride I have ever been on… Ever. We hit it up after dark, and it was simply amazing. Now I am exhausted, and am gonna hit the hay…

Party

Threw a small party tonight for my co-workers.. As expected, none of the adults showed up, but most of engineering came (Omar is out of the country). I made some kick-ass chili for the event, it was a big hit… I used to make chili all the time when I lived in Rochester, but I haven’t made much since… It’s high-time I got back on the horse…

Anyway, the party was a lot of fun, we hung out, listened to music, and eventually busted out the Super Monkey Ball, which is always a crowd pleaser…

Pool

Last night I got a call from Boston Billiards telling me that I won the business card drawing… Adam won this last year (about a week after Rovia engineers got business cards) and I won it again almost a year to the day later… It works out to two free hours of pool for 12 people (our whole company) with free appetizers… Should be fun…

The Apple store is doing a little release shindig for 10.2 tonight at the mall from 10p-12a and they are giving away computers and stuff… Given my rash of good luck lately I think I am going to go… A free computer is always good… :)
