Yet another great article about the Music Industry

Janis Ian (You know… she wrote and performed the songs “Society’s Child” and “At Seventeen”, among others) has written a wonderful article about the music industries failure to properly address the Internet. I like this article so much I think I am going to order her latest CD from her…. I may or may not like what I hear, but people like her (that are fighting the idiotic tide of the RIAA/NARAS) need to be supported… Of course, I still won’t buy a Courtney Love CD, but she had a wonderful diatribe on the same subject a few months back. In addition, super-producer (and former member of Big Black, an extremely important proto-industrial band) Steve Albini wrote a wonderful article which does a good job of describing how the record industry fucks its artists.

Amazon gets just a bit cooler

Go to Amazon and search for a restaurant name, like " Parish Cafe", and it will bring you to their new Restaurant Menu indexing service. It appears to be limited to major cities (like Boston, convieniently) so far, but it seems like an awesome service so far.

Can't.....Get.......Motivated....

I am having such an amazingly difficult time getting back into the swing of things here at work… Guess it is just another aspect of coming back from vacation… I have to say, though, that my interest in staying put career wise actually grew over vacation.. My bosses made some good decisions just before I left for vacation, and while I still wish that my current project was over with, I am once-again happy with the current direction of my career…

Adam, Helen, and I went to Hollywood Express Video yesterday and they were playing a tape of Elvis Costello & the Attractions videos on the monitors in the store… Those old videos are horrible… =)

Is there only Pain and Hatred and Misery?

I guess I have to go back to work tomorrow, which means my vacation is over…. Oh well, I feel pretty fucking relaxed for a change, which means the 3 days out of my vacation bank were well worth it…

Adam said that he thought that Franka Potente wasn’t that hot in The Bourne Identity, which leads me to believe that he is no longer interested in women (not that there is anything wrong with that… =P).

Back in Town

The lot of us went to Adam’s dad’s house for the 4th to get out of the city and beat the heat in the pool… It was alot of fun, but my back is bruised from repeated attempts at a standing front flip off the diving board… I can do a running front flip off of the board, but I was trying to get one from a standing position and ended up “back-flopping” about 30 times..

We went to see The Bourne Identity last night which was a fun movie, and it costarred Franka Potente, which is always a good thing. =) Afterwards we all slept on the floor of Adam’s air-conditioned bedroom…

Space

I just installed another 100GB into our file server and grew the two partitions via the magic of LVM and ReiserFS… I was starting to run out of space to edit the episodes of Good Eats, and disk space is so cheap these days I decided to go big.

Sean and Kelly still aren’t here, but I expect that they are just stuck in traffic somewhere.

Barefoot and Schnammond

Sean and Kelly should hopefully be here any minute, I woke up extraordinarily early this morning so I walked over to the hippie mart and got the supplies necessary for a barbecue in celebration of their arrival. I got 5 pork tenderloins and they are currently getting flavored up with the magic red rub in place… I also got some burgers and dogs in case there are any people who don’t eat pork, and Frances is bringing the veggie food…
