I think the intercom system on the phones should be disabled…

First off, is it disruptive to the person who is the recipient of the intercom call (since it doesn’t need to be ‘answered’, it just pick up automatically). The recipient has no way to refuse the intercom, so regardless of what they are working on, they have to drop what they are doing and address the person on the other end.

Second, it is disruptive to the neighbors of that person, since it is uses the speaker phone, so the neighbors are subjected to both sides of the conversation.

It’s not like disabling the intercom would really have any negative side effects. People can still call one another directly. The recipient can choose to either answer the phone or let it go to voice mail.

If the “caller” needs something addressed immediately, they can simply walk over to the office of the person they need to talk to.

At a minimum, I think that the intercom should not be the “default” when you dial someone’s extension… This would at least keep accidental intercom down to a minimum…
