I don’t think I have spoken much about it, save in my journal entry last night, but poker has taken ahold in our lovely apartment. I have never been one for card games, in fact I usually dislike them, but something about poker has grabbed me. Perhaps it is the betting angle, which has definately upped the strategy in my eyes. I’ve played four different nights now, and each time I have gotten better and refined my strategy. Hopefully I can keep improving, but if I start to lose money as a trend I will bail out… :) We don’t play for big money, so even if I do tank a night it isn’t a big deal at all.
Rory found a great TV show, World Poker Tour (on The Travel Channel, oddly enough). They televise poker tournaments from around the world, so it’s a great way to watch pros do their thing. We watched a tournament at Foxwoods tonight and I picked up gobs of great knowledge that will only help me next Tuesday.
I’m gonna go to bed now….
Poker is life!
I’ve been playing $.50/1 Texas Hold ’em every Tuesday for a while now, and I love it! I was terrible at first, had a cheat sheet with all the hand rankings, would never see the flush, and had no idea what “runner runner” or “the river” were. But last night I tripled my $20 :)
One guy at Danger won a seat in the World Series of Poker $10,000 no-limit hold ’em tournament that’s happening at the end of May, and my friend won a seat in a satellite (sort of a semi-final tournament) for the same. There’s no way I’m *not* going to Vegas that week– playing out there is awesome. And it’s hella cheap to fly there.
If you haven’t seen it, this is the article that sparked most of the poker players I know. Well worth the long read. Fun fact: Chris “Jesus” Ferguson’s brother Mark used to work at Be.
