We all caught Mulholland Dr. tonight… A beautiful, beautiful film….. Confusing in the usual David Lynch sense, but certainly a wonderful movie… My head is still spinning, perhaps a better review after dawn..

Wow. I thought of it as more of a big F.U. to the audience, like Lynch had finally completely folded in on himself.
Silenzio? Obtusio!
BTW, of the four of us who went, one thought it was tremendous, two enjoyed the scenes but thought it fell down in the last 1/3, and one (me) felt like it was a total cop-out. What was the breakdown in the group you went with?
Honestly, I don’t think anyone in my group of 5 complained about the movie, and all professed to enjoy it directly afterwards. I have talked to one of those people today, and they didn’t change their mind…
Confusing, yes.. Incomprehensible? No…
Hmm…. for me, that was just the problem. It didn’t feel like Lynch intended for anything to be comprehended. He developed an interesting story and even more interesting portraitures, then it was as if he forgot what he set out to do and just went dada with it.
I’ve seen Eraserhead 13 times and Twin Peaks several times – I have a deep love of his surrealistic imagery, dream/reality conflation, reflexive psychological immersion… I just didn’t feel like this one went anywhere interesting in the end. I guess that’s okay from a certain perspective, but I felt like he was just messing around with this film.
Honestly, I don’t think it was that incomprehensible… I mean, it wasn’t exactly “Cruel Intentions”, but I found that have a good grasp on the plot and what happened at the conclusion (except for the old people).
Now, Eraserhead.. There’s a lynch film I simply don’t like… :)
