  1. I noticed that a lot more out here in Rochester, the using quotes for emphasis rather than for quotes.

    I usually read them as scare quotes too.

    Interstingly the wikipedia definition of scare quotes also mentions emphasis, so… maybe we are wrong?

  2. the deli by me has a sign:

    “No” Pets Allowed.

    And the brothers who work there go to Columbia… so maybe it is emphasis. especially since a lot of dumb girls carry their dogs in with them.

  3. The singular usage also bothers me. If you are the only employee, do you really need a sign for yourself? Or can you just say to yourself “Hey, I should wash my hands before I touch food!”
