xCode

I am very, very interested in the distributed compiling features in OS X 10.3… I assume they must use ZeroConf (a.k.a. Rendezvous) to find the available resources?

I’d also like to play with iChat AV but none of my friends have videocameras apparenty. :P

  1. If you want to see how it works I could arrange to borrow a camera sometime.

I can also probably get you a copy of the developer preview as soon as the ITS fag my boss is friends with gets back from WWDC.

          1. I’ll get an actual copy early next week- probably tuesday at the latest. I’ll put it on my machine on campus- as legit as trading developer previews can get.

  2. I’m working from home currently, and all of my firewire cameras (dv cam and a firewire cam) are at RIT. I’ll be snagging one of them on thursday probably when I stop in at RIT.

As for xCode, I would think you’d have to tell it which machines it can use, or perhaps you “share” a processing node from your machine or something.

It really is pretty cool if you think about it, since not everyone is compiling at the same time, so you might as well lend out some processor cycles when you’re just sitting there looking for a bug or something. I really can’t wait to try it out. :)

Drop a line when you get one hooked up.

Oh, I’m sure it just doesnt pirate cycles from every Mac on the network, but I meant it probably uses ZeroConf to discover other machines on the network which have the xCode distributed client running on them.

  3. According to Apple’s Xcode page; “Distributed builds using Rendezvous, allowing your entire work group to take advantage of each other’s machines to compile your projects.”

I assume it’s like Shake, once you install the render/compile client the remote rendering just happens for free.
