Ick

I just lost a bit of respect for Michael Mann. It’s one thing to be involved with a god-awful 80’s show, but it’s another thing to rehash it into a movie almost 20 years later…

      1. reasons that 70’s show is good:
        1) donna is hot
        2) jackie is hot
        3) fez is funny
        4) kelso is funny
        5) eric is just like every one of us nerds
        6) if you dont like it you are dumb

        whats your beef!

  1. i’ll forgive you

    i’ll forgive you, sean, because you’re young.

    Miami Vice might be “god awful” by today’s standards, but at the time (1984-1989) it was one of the few shows on television (along with Hill Street Blues) to even attempt to give a semi-realistic view of the work cops do. There was nothing like it before these shows debuted, and these shows blazed the trail for more realistic cop shows (Law And Order, NYPD Blue). Before that, it was Starsky and Hutch and Baretta.

    it’s entertainment, dude. nothing more, nothing less. whether it’s good entertainment is an entirely subjective matter. if you don’t like it, fine. but realize that Miami Vice was groundbreaking, regardless of your personal feelings on the matter. dismissing the talents of someone like Michael Mann based on your subjective assessment is not fair. the man is an excellent director, and does a damned fine job in creating realistic portrayals of characters he creates. if you don’t believe me, read how hard he lobbied the movie studios to get realistic portrayals of American Indians in The Last Of The Mohicans.

    the movie that appears in the works is simply a reflection on what the market wants. obviously the studios feel that there is a significant market for a Vice film, or it wouldn’t get made. maybe it will suck, maybe not. but i’ll give Michael Mann the benefit of the doubt. he’s earned it.

    and oh, by the way, i use IRC every day. am i a “douche bag?”

      Nice try, but I hated Miami Vice well before syndication.

      If you actually read my original post, you would see that I said that I LOST respect for Michael Mann, implying that I had respect for him in the first place.

      Affirmative. =)
